The City of Young Harris has added a significant piece of local artistry to its collection with the addition of Ocoee River, an oil painting by David Sellers. This impressive work now resides in the City Council room, offering a permanent display of the creativity and talent found within the community.
David Sellers is a multifaceted artist and the owner of Appalachian Gallery, a combined art studio and workshop located in Young Harris. The gallery, established in 1975, showcases his expertise in various art mediums and houses the Ezra Sellers Art Collection. In addition to displaying artwork, Appalachian Gallery offers art restoration, custom picture framing, and video production services.
The building itself is a remarkable example of sustainable design. Constructed as a passive solar facility, it uses a Trombe heater wall made of concrete with a relief design on its exterior to capture and retain heat from the sun. This innovation reduces heating costs by 75% during the winter months.
David’s talents extend beyond the art world into vintage car restoration, with a focus on British sports cars in his workshop.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by Appalachian Gallery for a unique artistic experience and to learn more about its environmentally friendly design. Located at 4947 Thomastown Road, Young Harris, the gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information, call 706-379-3807.
