The Hayesville Yellow Jackets took to their home court on Tuesday night, determined to rebound from a challenging showing in the "Battle of the States" Christmas tournament. Their resolve paid off, as they earned a much-needed 62-53 victory over the Hiwassee Dam Eagles in a non-conference showdown.
The game began as a tightly contested affair, with the Eagles holding a slim 14-10 lead after the first quarter. Hayesville found their rhythm in the second quarter, fueled by strong offensive plays, and both teams entered halftime deadlocked at 25 points apiece.
In the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets’ offense came alive, outscoring the Eagles 20-8 to take a 45-33 lead heading into the final frame. Hiwassee Dam made a spirited push in the fourth quarter, putting up 20 points, but Hayesville’s consistent scoring ensured the win.
Hayesville’s standout performers included Slade Crouch, who led all scorers with an impressive 24 points. Brady Reynolds added 14 points, and EJ Abrams contributed 8 points in the balanced team effort.
The win marks Hayesville’s third victory of the season and a confidence boost as they look to build momentum.
The Yellow Jackets will look to carry their momentum into their next game, a home matchup against Chattanooga Christian on Friday, January 10. However, winter weather in the forecast may lead to a schedule adjustment.
