
The Hayesville Yellow Jackets varsity basketball team suffered a tough loss on Monday night, falling to the Hiwassee Dam Eagles by a final score of 57-49. Despite a promising start, Hayesville was unable to maintain their early momentum and dropped to 0-2 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets came out strong in the first quarter, taking a 19-12 lead over the Eagles with a well-rounded offensive attack. They extended their lead to 34-26 at halftime, fueled by sharp shooting and solid defensive efforts. However, the tide turned in the third quarter as Hiwassee Dam surged ahead, outscoring Hayesville 18-7 to take a 44-41 lead into the final period.
The Eagles kept their momentum going in the fourth quarter, holding off Hayesville’s attempts to reclaim the lead and sealing the victory with a balanced offensive performance and strong defensive stands.
Slade Crouch led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 13 points, while Brendan Lynch contributed 12. Brady Reynolds added 9 points, and Jackson Sellers chipped in 6, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Hiwassee Dam’s second-half surge.
Now 0-2 on the season, Hayesville will hit the road again on Tuesday, Dec. 10, to face Highlands. The Yellow Jackets will look to secure their first win of the season in a game scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m.
