Authorities are investigating the deaths of twin brothers found atop Bell Mountain in Hiawassee, Georgia, in what officials believe to be a murder-suicide. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is assisting the Towns County Sheriff’s Office following the grim discovery made by hikers on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
The victims were identified as 19-year-old Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis, both residents of Lawrenceville in Gwinnett County, Georgia. According to the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, the brothers were found dead at approximately 11:05 a.m. after a call was made to the Towns County 911 Center reporting the incident. Both men had sustained gunshot wounds, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.
The GBI was called in shortly after the discovery to aid in the investigation. A preliminary assessment suggests that one brother fatally shot the other before taking his own life. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding a possible motive or the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Autopsies are pending to confirm the cause of death and provide further insight into the case. The investigation remains active and ongoing as officials work to piece together the events that unfolded on the scenic Bell Mountain, a popular hiking destination in Towns County, Georgia.
The tragic deaths of the twin brothers have left the small community of Hiawassee and their hometown of Lawrenceville in shock. Further updates are expected as the GBI and sheriff’s office continue their work.
Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Towns County Sheriff’s Office or the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
