A 32-year-old man, Tanner Boyd, has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum of 25 years to serve, after pleading guilty to aggravated child molestation in both Towns and White Counties. The sentencing, which took place on Monday, March 31, 2025, marks the conclusion of a disturbing case that began with a complaint received by the Towns County Sheriff’s Office Investigators on June 3, 2024.
The investigation was launched following a report of child molestation involving a 13-year-old victim. Authorities discovered that the abuse had been ongoing for years, beginning when the victim was just 9 years old. The molestation took place in multiple locations, including Towns County and other jurisdictions.
On the same day the complaint was filed, June 3, 2024, Tanner Boyd of Hiawassee was arrested and charged with several counts of rape and aggravated sodomy. After months of investigation, Boyd entered a guilty plea to the charges of aggravated child molestation, leading to his life sentence.
Towns County Sheriff Ken Henderson praised the efforts of the investigators involved in the case, highlighting their hard work, dedication, and specialized training. “This was a sensitive and challenging case, and I commend our team for their commitment to bringing the suspect to justice with a conviction,” Sheriff Henderson stated.
The sentencing ensures that Boyd will spend at least 25 years behind bars, with the possibility of remaining incarcerated for life, providing a measure of closure for the victim and the community affected by these heinous crimes.
