The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in Hiawassee, Georgia, will soon host the 4th Annual Rhododendron Festival, a month-long celebration of spring running daily from April 12 to May 11, 2025. Held at the picturesque Hamilton Gardens, the event welcomes visitors seven days a week—Monday through Thursday from 11 AM to 3 PM and Friday through Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM. A $10 donation is requested to help maintain the gardens, while kids 12 and under get in free.

Hamilton Gardens dazzles with the Southeast’s largest collection of rhododendrons and native azaleas—over 1,500 plants—alongside wildflowers like trilliums, shooting stars, and trout lilies. The festival offers a packed lineup of attractions, including garden tours, plant sales, featured artwork, photo opportunities, and a variety of food and drink options.

Every Saturday and Sunday from 12 PM to 3 PM, live music will entertain guests throughout the festival. A Wine Bar and Food Court, serving local wines and delicious bites, will operate on weekends from 11 AM to 4 PM. Sundays also feature seminars and classes for those interested in gardening knowledge.

The festival wraps up with the Top of Georgia Plein Air Fine Arts Festival from May 8-10. Artists from across the Southeast will compete for over $2,000 in awards, painting outdoors amid the beauty of Hamilton Gardens and Lake Chatuge vistas. On Saturday, May 10, judging will determine the winners, followed by an Artists’ Gallery opening where visitors can view and buy the artwork. This event offers a rare chance to watch artists create in real time.

Nature enthusiasts, art lovers, and families alike will find plenty to enjoy at the Rhododendron Festival. With its blend of natural beauty, live entertainment, and community spirit, this Hiawassee tradition is a highlight of the spring season. Plan your visit between April 12 and May 11, 2025, for an unforgettable experience at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds.
