On March 27, K-9 Drug Enforcement Teams from the Towns County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with other local law enforcement agencies under a mutual aid agreement, conducted a random, unannounced search of Towns County Middle and High Schools. The operation involved school personnel and K-9 officers with their narcotic detection dogs performing free air searches in classrooms, lockers, and the student parking lot.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that these searches are part of routine efforts throughout the year to detect drugs in the schools. During the operation, teams entered both the high school and middle school, conducting cursory searches of lockers, common areas, and student properties. No illegal narcotics were found during the sweep.

The Towns County Sheriff’s Office expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the Union County Schools Police Department, specifically acknowledging Assistant Chief Christopher Jackson and K-9 Finn, Deputy Keanu Nguyen and K-9 Dargo, and Sergeant Jeff McConnel and K-9 Bravo. The office also thanked these officers for their dedication to their agencies and the care they provide to their K-9 partners.

Sheriff Ken Henderson emphasized that these efforts are intended to send a strong message that drugs will not be tolerated in or around the schools, highlighting the need for a safe, drug-free learning environment for students.
