On Monday, December 30, the Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets capped off their run in the Battle of the States basketball tournament with a tightly contested matchup against the tournament hosts, the Towns County Lady Indians. The game marked the third meeting of the season between the two teams, each having secured one victory in their previous encounters.

Towns County jumped out to an early lead, holding a 21-14 advantage after the first quarter and extending it to 30-19 by halftime. Despite the early deficit, Hayesville displayed resilience, clawing their way back into the game with a strong second-half effort. The Lady Yellow Jackets managed to close the gap to 35-27 at the end of the third quarter, setting up a thrilling finish.

In the final moments, Hayesville had a chance to tie or take the lead, but Towns County held on to secure a narrow 43-40 victory.

Mallory Peck led the Lady Jackets' offensive efforts with an impressive 20-point performance, followed by Ava Shook with 11 points and Bryleigh Krieger contributing 6 points.

Hayesville finished the tournament with a 1-2 record, including a win over Coosa earlier in the event. With the Battle of the States in the rearview mirror, the Lady Yellow Jackets now shift their focus to the second half of their season. Their next game is set for Tuesday, January 7, when they host the Hiwassee Dam Lady Eagles.
