PARIS – A pair of strong track and field performances highlighted Wednesday’s competition at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

Marie-Therese Obst advanced to the final of the women’s javelin throw, placing 10th in the event’s qualification round. The 2021 NCAA outdoor champion launched the javelin 61.82 meters/202 feet, 10 inches on her opening attempt to earn her place among the 12 qualifiers for the final. Obst is representing Norway in her first Olympic Games.
Aaliyah Butler crossed the finish line 20th in the 400-meter dash semifinals, posting a time of 51.18. The incoming junior represented Team USA while competing in her debut Olympic Games.
The Bulldogs will be well represented in Thursday’s Olympic action as the relays kick off in Paris. Ana da Silva (Brazil) will open the field events in the women’s shot put qualification at 4:25 a.m. ET before Shaunae Miller-Uibo (Bahamas) and Sanaa and Sole Frederick (Trinidad and Tobago) take the track for the first round of the 4x100-meter relay at 5:10 a.m. Jehlani Gordon (Jamaica) will follow in the men’s 4x100m at 5:30 a.m.

Anthony Edwards and the United States men’s basketball team take on Serbia in the semifinals Thursday at 3 p.m. in Paris.
