Mountain Lions Announce Record-Breaking XC Class with 22 New Athletes

The Young Harris College cross country team led by Director of Cross Country/Track and Field, Matt Logan, has finalized what is now the largest recruiting class in school history; adding 22 new competitors for the upcoming season. The 2024 newcomers consist of 21 freshman runners and one transfer; on the men's side, 12 freshman and one transfer runner have been added, and on the women's side, nine freshman make up the incoming class of cross country athletes.

Austin Dezwart (Lawrenceville, Ga.) attended Brookwood High School.

Brayden Figgins (Evans, Ga.) attended Evans High School.

Ryder Holland (Cumming, Ga.) attended East Forsyth High School.

Alan Pacheco (Gainesville, Ga.) attended Gainesville High School.

Gabe Pattacini (Lawrenceville, Ga.) attended Mountain View High School.

Xander Potter (Zebulon, Ga.) attended Pike County High School.

Noah Scheuer (Watkinsville, Ga.) attended Oconee County High School.

Hunter Shuler (Blountstown, Fl.) attended Blountstown High School.

Luke Sigman (Winder, Ga.) transferred from Bluefield State College.

Landon Sprinkles (Young Harris, Ga.) attended Towns County High School.

Aidan Vrazel (Atlanta, Ga.) attended Lakeside High School.

Brett Walsh (Winder, Ga.) attended Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy.

Director of Cross Country/Track and Field, Matt Logan, says, "I am really excited about the size, talent, and character of this year's class. It is a new day for our program, and we expect these guys to be in the mix for the top 7 spots right away. The team has really meshed well since they've been on campus, and I think we are going to surprise some people."

Ashley Mendoza (Monticello, Ga.) attended Jasper County High School.

Natalie Payne (Blairsville, Ga.) attended Union County High School.

Emma Shanklin (Marietta, Ga.) attended Kell High School.

Brynley Walraven (Calhoun, Ga.) attended Sonoraville High School.


Director of Cross Country/Track and Field, Matt Logan, says of the incoming women's cross country runners, "We brought in a big group that will see us compete in the top half of Conference Carolinas. Our group is talented, but what set each of them apart in the recruiting process was their desire to be part of what we are building at YHC." Continuing, "The desire to do more and improve is present every day at practice; with patience and a long-term approach, these women will push our program to where we think we can be."
