The Hayesville High School Lady Yellow Jackets showcased their resilience and determination on Saturday, Dec. 28, as they faced the Coosa Lady Eagles in day two of the Battle of the States basketball tournament. Hosted by Towns County High School, the game marked a loser's bracket match-up after both teams fell short in their opening games.
The Lady Yellow Jackets came out strong, ending the first quarter with a 10-5 lead. Their defense and teamwork held firm through the second quarter, keeping them ahead 18-15 at halftime. The third quarter saw Hayesville maintain their edge, leading 26-21, and they sealed their victory in the final stretch, finishing with a decisive 32-23 win.
Hayesville’s scoring was led by Ava Shook and Briley Clampitt, each contributing 10 points to the team's success. Brooke Graves added 4 points to round out the Lady Yellow Jackets' offensive efforts.
The team now looks ahead to their final game of the tournament, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 30, at 1 p.m. While their opponent was still undetermined at the time of publication, the Lady Yellow Jackets will undoubtedly bring their competitive spirit to the court.
