Lady Jackets And Worthy Causes Win

The Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets faced off against the Swain County Lady Maroon Devils in a thrilling day of volleyball on Saturday, Oct. 5. The games spanned middle school, junior varsity, and varsity levels, with Hayesville securing victories across the board.

Hayesville Middle School set the tone with a hard-fought win, taking the match 2-1. The JV Lady Yellow Jackets followed suit, dominating Swain County in two sets, winning 25-15 and 25-19.

In what became a varsity showdown for the ages, Hayesville's varsity team emerged victorious in a five-set barn-burner. The Lady Yellow Jackets clinched the first set 25-23 before dropping the second 25-17. They bounced back in the third, winning 25-19, but Swain County answered with a matching 25-19 victory in set four. The decisive fifth set saw Hayesville take control, closing out the match with a 15-8 triumph.

The day was not just about volleyball. It was also a community-driven fundraiser to support two important causes: Rhett Lovingood, a Hayesville Primary School student battling leukemia, and victims of Hurricane Helene. The fundraiser raised an impressive $7,740, which will be split equally between the two.

Hayesville will look to carry their momentum on the road as they face Andrews on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
