Recent reports of suspicious activity involving a black Dodge Charger have raised concerns among residents in both Towns County, Georgia, and Cherokee County, North Carolina. Authorities have provided updates to clarify the nature of these incidents and to offer safety guidance to the public.

Towns County Incidents Cleared

In Towns County, there were two reported incidents involving a black Dodge Charger. The first involved a Charger parked on the side of the road, which was confirmed to be a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) Trooper's vehicle. The second incident, which led to the circulation of a photo online, involved a Towns County Deputy conducting a lawful traffic stop. The deputy was in a marked patrol car and wearing a full uniform. Both incidents have been investigated and cleared by local authorities, with no evidence of criminal activity.

Cherokee County Reports Police Impersonator

Meanwhile, in Cherokee County, NC, the Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of an individual impersonating a police officer. The suspect was reportedly driving a black Dodge Charger with tinted windows and a tinted tag cover. Descriptions indicate the suspect is a white male, smaller in stature with brown hair, wearing a gray and dark blue uniform along with a vest containing a radio and handcuffs.

This incident occurred on US 19, just south of NC 141. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens that their patrol deputies are easily identifiable by their distinctive county patches. While non-uniformed officers may carry visible badges, they rarely conduct traffic stops.

Safety Tips for Motorists

Residents are encouraged to exercise caution if they feel uncertain about a traffic stop. If concerned for your safety:

  • Call 911 immediately to verify the legitimacy of the stop.

  • Use your turn signal to acknowledge the officer and drive to a well-lit, populated area.
