The Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets battled their way to a gritty victory over the Franklin Lady Panthers in a non-conference matchup on Thursday, Jan. 16, at home. The game was marked by tenacious defense and clutch scoring, with the Lady Jackets prevailing 36-27 in a contest that resembled the grind of a football game more than a basketball showdown.
From the tip-off, it was evident this would be a low-scoring affair, with both teams scrapping for every point. Hayesville edged out Franklin in the first quarter, 7-3, thanks to solid defensive pressure that limited the Lady Panthers’ offensive opportunities.
The Lady Jackets built on their momentum in the second quarter, outscoring Franklin 7-5 to take a 14-8 lead into halftime. While neither team found much rhythm offensively, Hayesville’s ability to capitalize on turnovers and secure second-chance points proved crucial.
In the third quarter, Franklin showed signs of life, cutting into Hayesville’s lead with a more aggressive offensive approach. However, the Lady Jackets held their ground, narrowly winning the quarter 10-9 to carry a 24-18 advantage into the final period.
With the game still up for grabs, Hayesville relied on their composure and teamwork to pull away in the fourth quarter. Critical buckets down the stretch helped the Lady Jackets seal a 36-27 victory.
Briley Clampitt led the scoring effort for Hayesville with 11 points, showcasing her ability to deliver in key moments. Ava Shook contributed 10 points, while Mallory Peck added 8, rounding out a balanced offensive attack.
The win improves the Lady Jackets’ season record to 5-6. Hayesville will be back in action on their home court on Friday, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m., taking on Summit Charter in another non-conference matchup. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Lady Jackets as they look to build on this hard-fought victory.
