Governor Cooper Delivers Remarks at Democratic National Convention

In his speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper delivered the final address before Vice President Kamala Harris took the stage to accept the Democratic nomination for President. His remarks underscored Harris's tenacity and commitment to fighting for American families, drawing on their shared experience as state attorneys general during the foreclosure crisis.

"2011 was a rough time for American homeowners," Cooper began, recounting how he and Harris, then California's Attorney General, faced the challenge of illegal foreclosures. While the nation’s attorneys general were on the verge of a settlement with major banks, Cooper revealed that Harris refused to settle for the initial offer of $4 billion for California families. Instead, she insisted on fighting for more, eventually securing a $20 billion settlement.

"That was the first time I witnessed Kamala in action," Cooper said, praising Harris as a leader who delivers on her promises and never settles for less.

Cooper emphasized that Harris's dedication to fighting for the underdog is a quality that will define her presidency. "Even if you don’t agree with her on everything, Kamala Harris will fight for YOU to the very end," he declared, listing the many issues Harris has championed, from healthcare and education to international alliances.

In a call to action, Cooper urged voters across the country to rally behind Harris, naming key battleground states and encouraging the crowd to stand up, fight, and vote. "Are we gonna stand up? Are we gonna fight? Are we gonna vote? And are we gonna win?" he asked, his questions met with enthusiastic affirmations from the audience.

With his speech, Cooper set the stage for what promises to be a spirited campaign, ending with a powerful message: "Kamala is ready. The question is: Are we?"
