North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of King Walker, 21, of 720 Florence Place, Atlanta, Georgia by officers in Durham County. Walker was charged with one count of insurance fraud, one count of obtaining property by false pretense, one count of common law forgery and one count of common law uttering. All four charges are felonies.
According to special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Walker presented fictitious receipts showing several visits to a chiropractor totaling $14,922.29 when Walker was seen only once for a total of $375. The false documentation was used to receive a payout from State Farm totaling $7,500. Walker also stated that he saw a different chiropractor from the one he visited.
According to the arrest warrant, the offenses occurred on Sept. 2, 2024.
Walker was arrested on Feb. 28 by North Carolina Central University Campus Police and released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. He appeared in Durham County District Court on March 3.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
