The US House passed a bill on Thursday with bipartisan support to deport or deny US entry to illegal aliens who are convicted of sex offenses or other crimes involving domestic violence, stalking, and child abuse or neglect.

The Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act was introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace, R-SC. She pointed to ICE data that shows nearly 650,000 illegal aliens on the non-detained docket are convicted criminals freely roaming our streets.

“These criminal illegal aliens freely roam our streets committing senseless acts of violence against American women and children,” Mace said. “My bill makes it very clear that if an illegal alien commits a sex crime or an act of domestic violence, they are inadmissible and deportable,” said Mace. “We aren’t letting you into our country, and if you’re already here, we are sending you back to yours.”

The bill passed in a bipartisan 274-145 vote, with 61 Democrats voting with all Republicans in support. From North Carolina’s delegation, Davis joined all Republican colleagues in supporting the bill, but the state’s three other Democrat representatives remained opposed to it.

The 145 Democrats who voted against the act were slammed online by voices like Elon Musk for not supporting the removal of illegal immigrant rapists from the nation. When the bill previously passed the House in the 2024 session, 158 Democrats voted against it.

Speaking on the House floor before the vote, Rep. Mark Harris, NC-08, said the act shouldn’t be controversial, but Democrats will use any excuse to oppose common sense border security.

“Common sense dictates if an illegal alien is in our country and they commit a sex offense or domestic violence, they should be deported immediately,” said Harris. “Common sense dictates if an alien is at the border and they’ve committed these kinds of egregious crimes in their past, they should not be allowed to take one step onto American soil. Anything short of this standard is a complete and utter failure to protect American women and girls. This bill before us today ensures just that.”

Earlier this week, Rep. Don Davis, NC-01, was the only member in the US House of Representatives to vote “present” on legislation passed Tuesday that would require school sports to recognize a student’s sex based solely on physical biology.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has said Republicans intend to quickly pass border security legislation, preparing President-elect Donald Trump for various actions on his first day in office next Monday.
