Clay County Fourth of July Celebration draws large crowds and rave reviews. Incident results in minor injuries

Press Release

Thousands gathered on the shorelines and lake for Clay County’s annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration. Marking the 4th year since its return to Lake Chatuge after a lengthy absence, the event brought residents and visitors alike out to celebrate our nations independence.

Gates to the Clay County Recreation Park were open all day so families could enjoy the park and beach well ahead of the festivities. The Clay County Recreation Department worked hard well in advance to provide for an enjoyable experience. As such, crowds formed early in anticipation of the show.

While the fireworks were well received, the event itself wasn’t without incident. Late in the finale, a single rocket fired sideways, injuring one of the technicians and nearly missing others in the crowd.

Fortunately, Clay County EMS and Clay County Fire and Rescue were staged nearby and immediately reacted to the incident. The technician was taken to a local hospital and later released with superficial injuries.

Pyro Shows out of Lafollette, TN, which the county contracts with to put on the show, will be investigating the incident and will release an official statement of its findings at that time.

Clay County Leadership is thankful for no serious injuries and will continue to work to ensure that safety remains our top priority as we plan for future Fourth of July Celebrations.

The fireworks are one of many events over a busy holiday weekend.

We want to commend the Clay County Sheriffs Office, Clay County EMS, Clay County 911 Dispatch and Clay County Fire and Rescue for their assistance in last nights festivities and for working to keep the county safe. Their service is greatly appreciated.
