Clay County Fire and Rescue faced a busy afternoon Thursday, Sept. 5, starting with a residential structure fire on Greasy Creek Road in Brasstown. The call for service reported a fire that began in a mobile camper parked in a residential driveway, which later spread to the nearby home.
Fire personnel responded promptly, deploying multiple apparatus to the scene, accompanied by Clay County EMS. The fire, originating from the electrical area of the camper's dashboard, quickly engulfed the camper, resulting in a total loss. However, firefighters managed to contain the flames before they could cause significant damage to the house.
“The proximity of the camper to the residence itself was our primary concern as we arrived on scene and saw the initial extension into the residence,” said Fire Chief Brian Anderson. “Firefighters were able to get that fire knocked down quickly with little damage to the interior.”
While the exterior of the home suffered some damage, quick action by the firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading further inside.
Chief Anderson also noted that this fire was followed by a string of additional calls for service throughout the county. “Sometimes things come in waves, and sometimes we can go a whole day without a single call for service—it’s just the way things go,” he said.
